SteelEye Helps Alstom Transport Ensure Business Continuity for Beijing Metro

'After unsatisfactory attempts to develop an in-house solution based on open source architecture, SteelEye LifeKeeper met all selection criteria including simplicity of use and ease of knowledge transfer and configuration,' said Maurice Guizard, R&D manager for Alstom Urbalis. 'As a centralized solution easily managed around the clock by our software applications, LifeKeeper minimizes any downtime in train services or schedule interruptions, ensures maximum uptime for Beijing Metro and optimizes cost of ownership throughout the life of the transport system.' Following its configuration, the installation of LifeKeeper took only two hours for each server. With LifeKeeper, Alstom can now reach a 99.9 percent uptime rate for business critical applications with a maximum downtime of only two minutes to complete a failover. The implementation of LifeKeeper also enables fault diagnostics to be sent remotely to operators, replacing the need for operators to manually check each deployed server. The solution was distributed by iO Partner, an authorized SteelEye solution center in France, and configured by Adelux. Given the success of LifeKeeper in China, Alstom plans to continue working with iO Partner to replicate the Beijing Metro implementation in future metro projects in Europe, Asia and South America.
