Published: Thursday, March 11, 2010By KELLY METZ kmetz@MorningJournal.comELYRIA - Yolanda Panter and her daughter, Mary Panter, said they are devastated by the fire that devoured their 114 Highland Court home early Tuesday morning. Both women said they believe someone who holds a grudge against them started the fire to get them out of the neighborhood.Yolanda, 74, and Mary, 34, sifted through what was left of their Elyria home yesterday afternoon. The foundation still stands, but is not enough for a new home to be built on top, Mary said, and the shed is barely standing where children's toys and sleds are charred. The fire was the second blaze in four months at the home, which Yolanda had lived in for roughly 50 years. She said she is scared to go back if the home, first deeded in 1897, is rebuilt."If it is determined arson, the insurance company won't be doing anything for awhile," Yolanda said about whether they will rebuild. "Either way, we are not coming back, we are too afraid now. Two fires in four months is too much. We can't handle it."While the Panters believe it was arson, Elyria fire Chief Richard Benton said the fire cause is suspicious, but has not been ruled arson yet. He also said there are no suspects and the investigation is still open. Search dogs with special skills to sniff out accelerants will accompany the fire marshals on Friday to determine if it was arson, Benton said. Yolanda said she has worked with the fire department and a $5,000 reward will be given to anybody with information.Yolanda said nothing was left in the house and it had been gutted because of smoke and water damage from the Nov. 12 fire that left the house uninhabitable. She and Mary have been living in a rental, with their dog and three cats, provided by the insurance company.She said "it wasn't a coincidence" the home was almost completely repaired and workers were bringing in windows and drywall on the same day the house caught fire. She also said she believes a man who lives close and knows the fire hydrants in the area are bad set the house on fire...
